About DevCorp North

DevCorp North is a 10-year old community-based organization serving Rogers Park that targets its primary efforts toward improving the economic viability of the community.  The present organization builds upon a 20-year history of three organizations, including the Howard Paulina Development Corporation. DevCorp North recognizes the challenge in maintaining Rogers Park as a unique, stable, and diverse community.  DevCorp’s role is critical in fostering revitalization that moderates the pressures of gentrification in this desirable lakefront community and produces opportunities for low-income residents as well as those who can take advantage of a market-driven economy.

DevCorp North can point to a number of significant successes in its efforts to bring about balanced revitalization to the community.  Some key accomplishments include:

  1. Implementation of a new Special Service Area (SSA) on Morse Avenue, Clark Street and Glenwood Avenue to allow for enhanced services and technical assistance to businesses on these streets;

  2. Creation of a new on-site computer lab and technology center for small business owners and entrepreneurs that offers personalized training in English and Spanish;

  3. Leading the community input and participation process that directed the final plan for a proposed new TIF District along Sheridan Road and Devon Avenue.

  4. Advocating for the community’s vision for transit oriented development and investment at the Howard Red Line station with the 2006 CTA  redesign process;

  5. Adaptive reuse of the Howard Theater in collaboration with Hispanic Housing and the Urban Investment Trust.

DevCorp North appreciates the value of mapping in accomplishing its objectives.  The Full Circle project will broaden DevCorp North’s GIS capacity in a fashion that allows for the use of the most current information available and creates a streamlined process for community participation.
