Southeast Environmental Task Force (SETF)
Full Circle Objectives:
Map land use and
transportation-related data along key business and traffic corridors that can
connect residents and tourists to existing and potential cultural, ecological,
and recreational sites in South Deering, East Side, Hegewisch, and South
Chicago.
Compile and map data fields
that will supplement planning efforts related to the development of recreational
and tourism sites and amenities (e.g. trail routes, driving tour routes, fishing
sites, pedestrian counts along industrial areas, traffic counts at facility
entrances).
Involve local leaders and
residents in a series of planning meetings to build a common vision, discuss
data, and propose recommendations.
Synthesize and map air quality
data collected in conjunction with our Clean Diesel Initiative, fugitive dust
study, and Odor Watch project.
About SETF
The Southeast Environmental
Task Force (SETF) has served residents in the Southeast Side and south suburbs
of Chicago for fourteen years and is guided by the following mission:
-
To empower residents and
students in the Southeast Side and south suburbs of Chicago to improve their
local environment;
-
To promote pollution
prevention and progressive business practices in Calumet region facilities;
and,
-
To promote preservation,
restoration, and enhancement of the region’s natural areas, and sustainable
development of the region’s industrial lands.
SETF succeeds by fostering
cooperation among over one dozen community groups and another dozen city-wide
and regional organizations. In addition, by being a primary organization
advancing effective partnerships such as the Lake Calumet Vision Committee, Lake
Calumet Ecosystem Partnership, and the Calumet Heritage Partnership, SETF has
established itself as the foremost Southeast Side non-profit organization
dedicated to sustaining the Calumet region environment.
Southeast Environmental Task
Force is a 501 (c)(3) organization that has served
the Southeast Side and south suburbs of Chicago since 1989. SETF's three
program areas include—civic and environmental education, open space enhancement,
and industry good neighbor dialogues.
The Full Circle Project will
help accomplish several of the organization’s project goals simultaneously by
involving and educating residents in land use visioning, promoting public open
space access, and working with industries to promote sustainable development.
